J.M.Coetzee and the Life of Writing, 2015, Viking

More than any other character in Coetzee’s fiction, K embodies a capacity to survive the nightmare of history. It is not fanciful to suggest that by the time Coetzee wrote Michael K, the Karoo had become an essential part of the substrate of his creativity, a key element in his poetics. ──David Attwell, J.M.Coetzee and the Life of Writing, p54.
